Vjeran Malenica, B.A. Law

Vjeran Malenica was born in 1975 in Zagreb. He holds a law degree. He has passed the bar exam and the exam for a permanent court interpreter for the English language. Vjeran is a certified and registered mediator in the Republic of Croatia, as a mediator in the Mediation Center “Medijator” and as a mediator on the list of mediators of AMCHAM Croatia – the American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia.

Vjeran has 25+ years of work experience gained in the legal profession and private sector corporations. As a legal trainee and attorney, he worked in the law office of Ivica Crnić in Zagreb, and one of the leading law firms in Croatia “Bogdanović, Dolički & Partneri”. Vjeran led legal affairs and legal teams as the head and executive director of legal, corporate and regulatory affairs in start-up companies in Croatia: RTL Televizija and Metronet Telecommunications. Since 2013, he has been employed as the head of general legal support in Pliva Hrvatska, a member of the TEVA Group.

During his law studies, in 1996 he received the Rector’s Award for his scientific work “Computer Crime as a New Area of ​​Criminal Law Regulation”, and during two student years as an excellent student he was also a scholarship holder of the Constitutional Court Foundation “Zlatko Crnić”.

As a law trainee and attorney, or corporate lawyer and manager, he has experience in the fields of civil law, litigation law, labor law, competition law, cross-border transactions, commercial law and company law, intellectual property law, investment fund and capital market law, telecommunications law, electronic media law and pharmaceutical law, AI and Legal Tech, project financing, restructuring, due diligence, team management, etc. His work and business experience are related to various industries and clients from a mainly international corporate environment, with participation in numerous projects and business processes of international companies.

In 2007, as a junior local advisor and lecturer on the European Union CARDS project “Intellectual Property Infrastructure for the Research and Development Sector in the Republic of Croatia”. Vjeran is also the author of the manual “Spin-out/off companies in the research and development sector in the Republic of Croatia”, project beneficiary – Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, with the project implemented by – AEA Technology, PLC, Didcot, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom.

In 2011, he worked as an expert advisor and lecturer as part of the cycle of workshops “Academic Entrepreneurship” – Office for Technology Transfer – University of Zagreb, with lectures on the topic of the module “Legal personality, introduction to company law and corporate governance”.

In 2017, he was the head of the working group for public procurement within the Croatian Employers’ Association, where intensive work was carried out on the development of the new Public Procurement Act.

During 2019 and 2020, Vjeran is a lecturer and author of a series of interactive lectures called “Missions to Space – yesterday, today, tomorrow”.

As a participant in Pliva’s multidisciplinary team, as a legal advisor, in the project “Construction of a solar – photovoltaic power plant (the largest in the Republic of Croatia), production location Savski Marof”, Vjeran is the winner of Pliva’s annual team award in 2022.

He is the author of several professional papers and articles in professional journals and has acquired numerous professional certificates by improving and educating himself through lifelong learning.

In 2023, Vjeran is actively educating himself in the field of artificial intelligence and new legal technologies and in 2023 he gives lectures on artificial intelligence and business at the MBA forum of the Cotrugli business school in Zagreb.

During 2024, as a guest lecturer, Vjeran begins giving lectures on artificial intelligence in business at the Effectus business school and polytechnic, Zagreb. There he educates and conducts trainings of the professional module “Law and Technology” that he independently prepared and developed, which are aimed at the business community through the “Mini MBA Doing Business 4.0” programs, primarily intended for middle and senior management and members of company boards.

In 2024, he obtained additional specialist education in the form of the “AI & Law”/”Law and Technology” certificate from Lund University in Sweden and additional certificates and education in the field of using AI technologies in law and business.

In 2024, Vjeran published his book “Artificial Intelligence and Doing Business in the Digital Age” as an author, published by publisher”Element” Zagreb, and the book has the approved status of a polytechnic textbook at the Effectus Polytechnic, Zagreb.

In 2025, Vjeran works as a professor at the Effectus Polytechnic, Zagreb, where he teaches the course “Legal Tech” to 3rd year students of the “Finance and Business Law” study program.

Vjeran is married and the father of two children, and after many years of active basketball, he began to take swimming more seriously and compete in veteran (masters) pool swimming championships. During the summer, Vjeran has also competed in sea swimming marathons for several years. In addition to reading books, his hobbies include hiking, fine arts, travel photography, skiing, aeronautics, Formula 1, and making model fighter planes.
