Darko Horvatin, Ph.D.

Dr. sc. Darko Horvatin was born on February 14, 1968, in Letovčan Novodvorski, Klanjec. In 1988, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, specializing in International Trade. In 2003, he earned a Master’s degree in Economics from the same faculty. His thesis was titled “The Impact of Foreign Direct Investments on the Competitiveness of Goods Exports”. He defended his doctoral dissertation on “The Impact of Different Forms of Foreign Direct Investment on Economic Growth in Relation to the Degree of Innovation” in 2018 at the Faculty of Economics in Split.

By the decision of the Maternal Committee for Social Sciences in 2020, he was elected to the scientific rank of scientific associate in the scientific field of social sciences – economics. By the decision of the Professional Council of EFFECTUS, Business Studies – Higher Education Institution, on November 30, 2021, he was elected to the academic rank of lecturer (title without employment) in the field of social sciences, economics.

He has passed the exam for investment advisor, licensed pension fund manager, and licensed pension insurance company manager.

He has worked in several domestic and international financial and investment institutions in various roles (from credit officer to CEO). Since 2011, he has been employed at the Croatian Pension Investment Company d.o.o. for managing alternative investment funds, where he initially held the position of a member of the Management Board and, since 2016, has been the Chairman of the Management Board.

He has further specialized by attending professional seminars both in Croatia and abroad. He is the author of several scientific and professional papers related to financial markets. He has extensive experience in corporate governance as a member of supervisory and audit boards. He is a member of the management board of the Croatian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (CVCA).
