From the classroom to the courtroom: EFFECTUS University College students gained first-hand insight into the work of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia
On 6 May, first-year undergraduate professional study students of Finance and Business Law at EFFECTUS University of Applied Sciences visited the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia as part of a field class within the course Fundamentals of Civil Law. During the visit, they had the opportunity to gain direct insight into the work of the highest court in the Republic of Croatia and acquire valuable knowledge about the practical aspects of the functioning of the legal system.
The students were welcomed at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia by Judge Jadranko Jug, PhD, who introduced them to the organisation, jurisdiction, and scope of work of the Supreme Court, as well as to the process of judicial decision-making. Through discussion and a presentation of the Court’s work, the students gained valuable information about the role of the judiciary in safeguarding legal certainty and ensuring the uniform application of judicial practice.
“It is important to us that, alongside theoretical knowledge, students also gain direct experience and an understanding of the work of key institutions within the legal and economic system during their studies. The visit to the Supreme Court provided students with valuable insight into the functioning of the judiciary and further encouraged them to reflect on the importance of law in the fields of finance and business. We would like to thank Judge Jadranko Jug, PhD, for his time and engaging lecture, which brought the work of the Supreme Court closer to our students,” emphasised Dean Jelena Uzelac, PhD.
As part of the visit, the students also toured the premises of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia and one of the most significant specialised law libraries in Croatia. The library, whose origins date back to the second half of the 19th century, now holds a collection of approximately 25,000 volumes of books and journals, primarily in the field of law, representing a valuable source of professional and academic literature.
Field classes are part of EFFECTUS University of Applied Sciences’ efforts to provide students, in addition to theoretical knowledge, with direct exposure to institutions and professional practice in the fields of law, finance, and business.
By the end of the semester, another field class is planned – a visit to the public notary office of Matea Vidjak Veselić, scheduled for 26 May.
