AI Is Changing the Rules of Education: We Are Shaping the Response

Artificial intelligence is no longer a topic of the future. It is already present in classrooms, workplaces, everyday learning, and decision-making. That is why, as part of the EFFECTUS faculty meeting held ahead of the start of the 2026/2027 academic year, we addressed one of the most important questions in contemporary education – how do we learn, teach, and develop knowledge in the age of artificial intelligence?

The workshop “Challenges for Students and Faculty in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” was led by Assistant Professor Vjeran Bušelić, PhD, and focused on the real-world challenges and opportunities that AI is already bringing to students and faculty.

How can we use artificial intelligence as a tool rather than a shortcut? How can we preserve independent thinking, academic integrity, and the quality of knowledge? How can we develop competencies that are becoming even more important precisely because information is more accessible than ever? The answers lie beyond technology alone.

They lie in the ability to ask the right questions, verify sources, understand context, critically evaluate information, and make responsible conclusions. That is why artificial intelligence presents higher education with more than just a technological challenge. It encourages us to rethink how we teach, how we learn, and what it actually means to know in today’s world.

For EFFECTUS, this kind of dialogue is an important part of the continuous development of the teaching process. Our openness to new technologies goes hand in hand with responsibility, critical thinking, and the development of competencies that students will need in a business world that is changing faster than ever.

The future of education will not be shaped by artificial intelligence alone. It will be shaped by people who know how to understand it, question it, and use it to create new ideas, better solutions, and new value.

That is why we are entering the new academic year with an open mind, curiosity, and a willingness to learn – not only about change, but together with it.
