AI in the Service of Students: From the First Idea to an Outstanding Term Paper or Master’s Thesis

• The workshop is intended for students at all levels of study who wish to learn how to use artificial intelligence tools effectively and responsibly in the preparation of term papers, final papers, master’s theses, and research projects.

The Ekonomski institut, Zagreb is organizing a two-day student workshop entitled “The Use of AI Tools in Student Research: Literature Review, Coding, Analysis, Writing”, which will take place on March 16 and 17, 2026, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Institute’s premises (Trg J. F. Kennedyja 7).

The workshop will be led by Luka Šikić, Assistant Professor at the Hrvatsko katoličko sveučilište. His scientific and teaching work covers macroeconomics and financial markets, machine learning, data science, econometrics, and natural language processing (NLP, LLM). He obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb, and further advanced his expertise at renowned international institutions, including the Vienna Graduate School of Economics, the The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, and the Kiel Advanced Studies Program.

The workshop is designed for students at all levels who want to learn how to effectively and responsibly use AI tools in the preparation of seminar papers, final papers, master’s theses, and research projects. Participants will receive concrete guidance on how to transform an initial idea into a structured research question, how to accelerate and deepen the literature review process, how to verify the credibility of AI-generated sources, and how to avoid so-called “hallucinations” produced by AI tools.

We invite students of the EFFECTUS veleučilište to apply and further strengthen the competencies they develop through their studies. At a time when analytical skills, data handling, regulatory understanding, and the ability to construct structured arguments are essential for the labor market, this type of training provides practical tools for enhancing both research and professional work. The use of AI tools in literature reviews, data analysis, financial and legal analyses, and the writing of seminar and final papers directly complements the EFFECTUS study program, which emphasizes applied knowledge, quantitative methods, and the development of professional responsibility. By participating in the workshop, students gain the opportunity to enhance their digital and research competencies and integrate them into their academic and future professional careers in the fields of finance, business law, and corporate governance.
