Mirjana Bautović, Prof.
Lecturer
After completing high school in Dubrovnik, I graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb with a degree in English Language and Literature and Comparative Literature. I briefly worked in the sales sector at a travel agency in Dubrovnik, and later as a tourist guide. In Zagreb, I worked for several years in primary schools and then for many years at a language high school, where I was the head and coordinator of a multilingual English program. At the University of Vern, I taught business English, English for tourism and hospitality, and English in the Public Relations study program for many years. For the past six years, I have been teaching business English at Effectus Polytechnic.
For many years, I have been involved in written translation of texts and scientific papers from various fields, as well as consecutive interpretation. I have attended numerous professional and scientific conferences both domestically and internationally, as well as summer schools in the United Kingdom. I have given presentations and workshops on various relevant topics in the field of methodology, the creation of teaching materials, and English for specific purposes (ESP). Furthermore, my published scientific and professional papers address the relationship between English and Croatian in various written genres, the development and challenges of teaching English in Croatia, and the dominance of English as the language of publication in scientific journals in the humanities and natural sciences.
As part of the Erasmus program for teaching staff, I stayed in Porto (ISCAP, 2016) for tourism studies, where I delivered several lectures on the topic “UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Croatia,” and in Madrid (UAX, Alfonso Sabio University, 2024) for mechanical engineering studies, where the lecture topic was “Entrepreneurship – Challenges and Opportunities.”
