Roman Law Revived in the Classroom: An Inspiring Guest Lecture at EFFECTUS
“Property Law in Roman Law” was the topic of a guest lecture delivered on March 17 to students of EFFECTUS University of Applied Sciences by Tamara Crevar, a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Law for Commerce and Judiciary in Novi Sad.
The lecture took place in an exceptionally pleasant and stimulating atmosphere, characterized by an interactive approach and active student participation. Already in the introductory part, through legends about the founding of Rome, an engaging perspective was opened on the development of Roman society and its legal system, laying a solid foundation for further elaboration of the topic.
Through an overview of the periodization of Roman history, students were introduced to the key social and legal changes that shaped Roman law. Particular interest was sparked by the discussion of Gaius’s tripartite division of law, whose influence can still be recognized in modern legal systems. A dynamic exchange of opinions and questions further enriched the lecture and encouraged critical thinking.
In the final part, the focus was placed on property law, with a comparative presentation of Roman legal institutions and their modern equivalents. Through practical examples and solving concrete cases, students had the opportunity to apply the knowledge they had acquired, successfully linking theoretical content with practice.
The guest lecturer expressed her satisfaction with the lecture, highlighting the warm welcome and professionalism of the hosts. She extended special thanks to Director Miljenko Javorović, Dean Jelena Uzelac, and Željka Zavišić.
Such guest lectures confirm the importance of connecting academic communities and exchanging knowledge, further enriching the educational experience of students.
